Crunch Causes Insurance Scare

The Insurance Research Council has recently hit the headlines, claiming that because of the current economy there has been an increase in uninsured drivers. It appears that the recession has lead to a surge of people who fail to make their payments on time or simply, fail to pay for their insurance at all.

As a driving school we understand the significance of having insurance. Although, we also understand that because of the current economic circumstances it means pinching the pennies. Even still, car insurance is of paramount importance and it is essential that you have it.

Police have warned all motorists that who drive without motor insurance that they face the risk of jail. Moreover, police are aware that more people are without insurance and are out to catch them.

If you feel that your car insurance is too expensive then do your best to shop around. Price comparison websites are extremely helpful. Companies are well aware of how the economy affects people, so are furiously competitive for your service.

Night Time Driving

As you probably know, now that you have passed your test or if you learnt to drive during the evenings, there is added difficulty when driving in minimal light.

At Wolverhampton Driving School it is important for us that you are perfectly prepared for night time driving.

So here are a few tips:

1) Speed – be responsible about your speed. At night it is more difficult to see things. Driving within the speed limits will allow you to spot hazards early.

2) Lights – Ensure that all your lights are functioning properly. They are of paramount importance. Not to mention it is illegal to drive without fully functioning lights.

3) Tiredness - Simply, do not drive when you feel tired. There are numerous tragedies caused by drivers who fall to sleep at the wheel. If you must drive late at night, make sure you are fully alert (and carry some energy drinks when you have a break).

4) Dazzle - Driving at night with intense light heading towards you can cause a dazzle. Do not stare directly at oncoming headlights. If your rear view mirror is causing a dazzle, adjust it so that it is reduced.

Finally, we know that learning in practice is very beneficial so ask your driving instructor for some night time driving lessons.

Learning the Theory

It is all very well getting in the car and learning the practical from your driving instructor. However, it’s just as important that you learn the theory behind driving. We believe that it is valuable to learn the theory before you begin your driving lessons so you can get an understanding of the roads.

An excellent way to know the theory is by getting a copy of The Highway Code (available at all good book shops), if you don’t fancy buying it then it is available for free on the internet (www.direct.gov.uk).

It covers everything from what to do on a motorway breakdown, road users who require extra care and all the different speed limits. Of cause you will need to know all this for your theory test.

The way it is presented makes most of it easy to understand. If there is something you are unsure of in the guide you can always ask your driving instructor. At Wolverhampton Driving School we welcome questions relating to The Highway code. Not least because it shows us you have been doing your home work!

Learning the Motorway

So you’ve passed your driving test, burnt the L plates and raring to go. But what happens when it comes to wanting to drive on the motorway?

You may think your okay on a quiet Sunday afternoon in good driving conditions. But what happens in rush hour, when it is raining heavily, the windows are steaming up and its total chaos?

Fact is, it is best to know how to drive safely on the motorway and this can be done once you have passed. There is, unfortunately, no end to the amount of fatal accidents caused on British motorways every day. Many accidents can be prevented if people are taught properly about motorway driving.

You can benefit by going out with an experienced driver and getting a thorough understanding for how motorways work and how to handle situations.

A good way to learn is through either the pass plus course or asking your driving instructor for further lessons once you have passed. At Wolverhampton Driving School we offer both as we truly believe they are important.

So when you do pass think carefully about motorway driving, it is great fun when it is done safely.

Watch Your Speed Limits

As any driving instructor will tell you, “know your speed limits.” And they tell you for good reason.

A recent survey done in Hertfordshire found that many drivers were not aware that roads with regular traffic lights meant speed limits of 30 miles per hour. Unless otherwise stated. For many road users breaking this rule can end up with the loss of three penalty points and a £60 fine.

However, there are much more serious consequences, one been serious injury or death. As is shown by the recent death of a 14 year old girl in Suffolk, killed when she was hit by a driver who was driving at 40mph in a 30mph area.

At Wolverhampton Driving School it is essential for us that all our pupils learn the importance of speed limits. Especially for the reasons mentioned above. So when we hammer it home that you must stick to the speed limits we do it for good reason!
